SNP replaces Frank Elizabeth as proportionately
elected MNA-DP contests

The Democratic Party (DP), who formed an alliance with the SNP to contest the May 10 – 12 parliamentary elections, has however brought the matter before the court to contest this replacement. The matter is expected to be mentioned in the Supreme Court on November 15, 2007 for setting a date for the hearing on the merits.

Meanwhile the newly appointed member, Honourable Henrie, took his Oath of Allegiance before the National Assembly at its sitting yesterday morning.

Gervais Henrie, who is better known as José Henrie, has been until now a radio and television producer with the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC).

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Patrick Herminie informed the Assembly that the replacement was in line with the Constitution.

The National Assembly congratulated Hon. Henrie on his new appointment.

At its sitting yesterday morning, the National Assembly also unanimously approved three motions.

The first one was tabled by the elected member for Baie Lazare Hon. Wilby Lucas and was asking the Assembly to approve the appointments of Mrs Marlene Lionnet and Mr Patrick Jacques Berlouis as members of the Constitutional Appointment Authority (CAA).

The second motion, brought forward by the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Marie- Louise Potter, was seeking the ratification by the Assembly of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The third motion, tabled by the elected member for Bel Ombre, Hon. Nicholas Prea, was asking the Government, through the Ministry of Health, to undertake a study on diabetes in Seychelles and to take necessary measures to better sensitize the population and also set up appropriate facilities to fight the disease which is affecting a lot of people.
